Dr. Nicolas Durand
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Nicolas doctoral thesis on Nanotechnologies applied to Life Sciences at EPFL built Abionic's core technology. He was involved in the development of resonating biosensors at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and was the winner of the 2006 Omega Award. Nicolas has several years of management experience in the Swiss Army as an Officer; in the robotic association that he presided from 2002 to 2004 and as founder of the aeronautical association of EPFL that he presided from 2007 to 2009. Nicolas was also recently granted by the Young Entrepreneur Award 2010.
Dr. Iwan Märki
Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer
Iwan is an expert in optical technologies. For more than three years, he has directed the research on single molecule spectroscopy and imaging at the Laboratory of Biomedical Optics, EPFL. With a Masters degree in microengineering (EPFL) and a PhD on nano-optical devices (IMT, Neuchâtel), he has the key competences to combine Abionic’s technologies into innovative products.

Stéphane Broillet
Head of Engineering
Stéphane is an expert in micro/nano-technology and in electronics, with a Masters degree in Microengineering (EPFL). He has developped for more than five years medical and industrial devices, first as an engineer and then as a project leader.
Dr. Annick Mayor
Head of Core Biology
Annick studied biology at the university of Lausanne before carrying out her PhD work in the laboratory of Professor Jurg Tschopp. Her thesis work focused on the inflammasome complexes required for the activation of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-1. In particular, she identified Sgt1 and HSP90 as two proteins involved in the regulation of the NALP3 inflammasome complex. After obtaining her PhD in 2008, she joined Addex Pharmaceuticals as a post-doctoral research scientist in the Assay Development department where she was in charge of designing a high throughput screening assay to identify IL1RI negative allosteric modulators.
