Board Members
Prof. Theo Lasser
Co-founder and Chairman of the Board
Full Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Biomedical Optics at EPFL, Theo is at the cutting edge of optical functional imaging methods for applications in life science and medicine. Theo has also several years of industry experience, including research and consulting for Carl Zeiss SA.
Daniel Balmer
Member of the Board
Daniel’s experience covers over 40 years in the field of vision-optics, opto-medical applications and medical laser technology. As cross-functional expert in developping and marketing high tech medical devices, he understand’s the link between developper-manufacturer and physical applications in healthcare. His business wisdom and ethical standards will contribute to the introduction and understanding for the Abionic medical device.
Tim Dyer
Member of the Board
Tim is co-founder and chief financial officer of Addex Pharmaceuticals where he played a significant role in raising more than CHF260 million in capital including Addex IPO, 3 venture capital rounds and a PIPE transaction. Since founding in 2002 until 2008 he was also responsible for human resources and business development and oversaw the growth of the organization to more than 140 staff and signing of drug development partnerships with Merck & Co., Inc. and Johnson & Johnson.
Prior to joining Addex he spent 10 years with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK, Ex-Soviet Union and Switzerland. Tim is a member of the Swiss government innovation promotion agency coaching team and has extensive experience in finance and the building of start-up companies. He is a UK Chartered Accountant and holds a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry and Pharmacology from the University of Southampton.
Dr. Nicolas Durand
Member of the Board
Nicolas is the Founder and CEO of Abionic.
Nicolas doctoral thesis on Nanotechnologies applied to Life Sciences at EPFL built Abionic's core technology. He was involved in the development of resonating biosensors at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and was the winner of the 2006 Omega Award. Nicolas has several years of management experience in the Swiss Army as an Officer; in the robotic association that he presided from 2002 to 2004 and as founder of the aeronautical association of EPFL that he presided from 2007 to 2009. Nicolas was also recently granted by the Young Entrepreneur Award 2010.
